Hunting down obscure car parts is exhausting

My 126p project car is almost complete, but that also means there's a lot of small things to sort out, as is usually the case with "frame-off" restorations.

I've spent at least 4-5 hours each day in the last 4 days hunting down obscure parts that we need. Many of those bits are various brackets and clips that either rusted out and broke while we were taking the car apart or were missing in the first place. Of course, we could fabricate replacements for many of those with a little free time and some metal cutters, but it's nice to be able to put the car together using all the right parts.

Just today I've managed to get my hands on:
- handbrake cable clips (I really thought those were impossible to find, I was incredibly lucky)
- gauge cluster frame
- rear brake line clips
- a couple of alternator drive pulley spacer-washer things (it's a reasonably big flat disk that you put in the middle of the pulley to loosen the belt)
- some rear suspension spacer-washer things (used to set the rear geometry); I'm still waiting to hear about the ones for the front end
- gauge cluster mounting brackets
- a bunch of pretty unique bolts
- a genuine manual for the correct year that looks brand new (yay!)

Getting those parts required hunting down some heavily moustached (and usually beardy) men who hoard weird car shit and spending ages while they attempt to go through their massive heaps of parts (swearing profusely) to find what I need. For some bizarre reason those people always have a horrible aversion to ever picking up the phone, so I had to visit each one of them personally to check whether they have what I need.

In the end, I guess it's a reasonably fun job and all thing considered the availability of spare parts is absolutely amazing, so I won't complain too much. Then again, I bloody hope we have pretty much everything we need by now...

PS. Also, we're putting the engine back in tomorrow. Photos are !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I am well on my way to becoming one of those. Give me 20 years....and yes I hate phones.

So you're the person the younger generation will be getting their obscure parts from? Remember to build up an impressive library of swear words and get a humongous beer gut.

And a penchant for headgear similar to RR Martin.

I already had to build an outdoor mini storage shed because my parts exceeded storage in the garage. Was in the Navy so swear words I've got. I'll try to keep the gut at bay, but looking at my father and grandfather that may be a losing battle.
